On the testing side : Thermal expansion


 High temperature strength of refractory materials makes them naturally suited to be used in severe thermal conditions. Most of the time, heating of linings in operating conditions introduces variable elongation: this phenomenon is called thermal expansion.

These thermal expansion, if not taken into account at the design step, can engender phenomenon of spatial locking, resulting in some cases to the failure of the system.

It shows all the interest to access the best possible estimation of thermal expansion of the material to be laid. So the following methods aim to determine the thermal expansion of dense and insulating, unshaped and shaped refractory materials.
